arnica quartet prepares for march 15 concert
The Arnica Quartet (of which I am the violist) is busily preparing for our March 15th concert at the Old Church in downtown Portland. It’s an ambitious program, but one that I think will go over well, especially as part of Bob Priest’s third annual March Music Moderne festival, which runs from March 7–23, 2013.

March Music Moderne
The third month of this year means the third year of March Music Moderne, upon us again with 32 events all across the PDX global village multiverse we live in. 10 events are held in SE, 12 are free and ALL sound intriguing. It’s a month-long nightly musical extravaganza of symphonies, bands, seriousness, sensuousness, classical, sounds of nature, spoken word and musical exploration.

It’s March, which means it’s time to let March Music Moderne help us shake off our winter doldrums.
Back for a third year, the monthlong celebration gathers 32 events together in a loose confederation of contemporary music ranging from solos, duos and string quartets to full symphonies.

The MMM festivities are a concoction of composer/impressario/frequent online scribbler Bob Priest. He will preview the festival program on All Classical FM with host Robert McBride on Saturday, March 2nd at from 8 pm to 10 pm and on KBOO with host Andrew Hosch on Monday, March 4th at from 8 pm to 10 pm.

Free Marz String Trio: Of the 33 events in March Music Moderne, a monthlong jamboree of new music, one by Portland’s Free Marz String Trio promises to be memorable. The group marks the 100th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” with “the Rite to March” — 10 new one-minute marches based on different fragments of Stravinsky’s famous work. Bonus: the concert is free.
