MMM Returns on Monday 9 – Sunday 15 March

MMM returns on Monday 9 – Sunday 15 March with a PDX style salute to Beethoven’s 250th birth year that is being celebrated worldwide as BTHVN 2020. 

In addition to numerous newly commissioned works, this year’s multi-genre festspiel includes music by Beethoven, Berio, Ives, Kahane, Mahler, Schnittke, Shaw, Tabakova, Ustvolskaya & Wagner.

Club Mod LIVE

Tune in as host Robert McBride presents a special Club Mod LIVE this Saturday beginning at 8pm, inspired by the Oregon Symphony’s first performance of Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphony. Quintessential music by Olivier Messiaen, Debussy, Saariaho, Stockhausen and local composers for various combinations of flute, cello and piano. Performers include Amelia Lukas, Valdine Mishkin, and Monica Ohuchi with special guest Ronni Lacroute. This edition of Club Mod Live is part of Messiaen Mélange Musique. Electric Marzena Land & MMMessiaen Mélange Musique preview airs Monday, November 28th from 8-10 pm on KBOO 90.7 FM [streaming at kboo.fm]

KBOOMarzena’s Bob Priest appears on A Different Nature to talk about his latest project — MMMessian Mélange Musique — a series of free concerts and radio broadcasts timed to coincide with the Oregon Symphony’s first ever performance of Olivier Messiaen’s “Turangalîla.” Tonight’s program will feature world premieres of electro-acoustic pieces derived from the music of Messiaen by Antonio Celaya, James Harley, Andrew Hosch, and Robert McBride, which were commissioned for the occasion. Also, excerpts from Messaien’s Cinq Rechants, Harawi, Turangalîla, and music by RP Collier, Stuart Dempster, Henryk Górecki, Maurcio Kagel, plus a special Stockhausen music box, and more.

Olivier Messiaen’s 50-minute work, Harawi, for soprano (Hannah Penn) and piano (Jeff Payne) follows.

This show is not appropriate for youngsters with limited attention spans.

XRAY.FMOn this week’s Double Bummer, your host Robert Ham is joined by Bob Priest, the musician and composer, to discuss the upcoming MMMessiaen Fest or as it’s better known: Messiaen Melange Musique, a five-night celebration of the work of French composer Olivier Messiaen that kicks off on November 28th.

They will discuss Priest’s history studying composition with Messiaen and the many amazing events scheduled, as well as sampling some of the music that will be played at the MMM.

MMM returns in 2016 with “Full Frontal Five” on Friday 25 – Sunday 27 March 2016.

Our 5th sonically-saturated festspiel, FFF’s 5 concerts features music by 19 composers from 12 countries with bravura birthday fanfares for John Coltrane, Sofia Gubaidulina, Mauricio Kagel & Wynton Marsalis.

MMM V also commissions a new dance from Seattle Kogut Butoh, mounts an exhibition of Polish posters & offers catered receptions with food & drink from around the world.

So, mmmark your calendars now & come on back for our full program launch on 25 June.
